Gael

Gael is a katakan of the Gharasham tribe who made his home in Oxenfurt, and he is the monster behind the witcher contract The Oxenfurt Drunk. Living among the city’s hard-drinking students gave him a taste for blood with a generous splash of alcohol in it, along with a magpie’s weakness for jewellery and shiny baubles. His boozy diet did him no harm at all: he grew stronger than an ordinary katakan, heals quickly, leaves deep bleeding wounds with his claws and can vanish into thin air only to reappear behind his victim.

His killings eventually drew too much attention, and a contract was posted. To lure him out, Geralt has to become the bait, which in practice means drinking plenty of cheap wine until his own blood matches Gael’s refined tastes. It is one of the few contracts where getting drunk is part of the plan.

Combat strategy

Get tipsy first so Gael takes the bait. Keep Quen up to absorb his surprise attacks from behind, and use Yrden to trap him and stop him from turning invisible. Vampire Oil on the silver sword and a Black Blood potion before the fight both help against his fast regeneration.
