Overview
Now or Never is a secondary quest in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and the climax of Triss Merigold‘s story in Novigrad. It starts when Geralt talks to Triss after A Favor for Radovid and A Matter of Life and Death. It fails if not completed before The Isle of Mists. Finishing it also ends Witch Hunter Raids and removes Zoltan’s stealth option in The Great Escape.
Before you go
On the bridge at Glory Gate, witch hunters are about to burn Moritz Diefenthel, the masked mage from the ball. Geralt can let him burn or save him and send him to Triss.
Two missing mages
At her apartment, Triss’s landlords are demanding her necklace for the growing risk of hiding her. Geralt can step in or not. Triss has to evacuate the mages at once, but two of them, Berthold and Anisse, have not arrived. She can risk everything to save them or leave them behind, and Geralt’s advice decides it.
If they go for the couple, they must fight witch hunters at their hideout and use Axii to get Berthold moving. The delay costs a life, though: Olivier, the innkeeper of The Kingfisher, is killed before they arrive. If they go straight to the inn, Olivier lets them into the basement.
Through the sewers
In the Kingfisher’s basement the mages are ready to go, and Dijkstra is there to help them, and to make some useful friends. Triss gives a speech, and she and Geralt clear a way through the sewers: mucknixers, rat swarms, an ancient library behind a wall that Aard can break, and finally a katakan.
At the docks
At the harbor, witch hunters attack one last time. Then Triss says goodbye. If Geralt lets her go, she sails with the mages. If he kissed her at the ball and asks her to stay, telling her he loves her, she comes back, and the two spend the night at the lighthouse. Beware: if Geralt already romanced Yennefer in The Last Wish, romancing Triss here means losing them both.
