Overview
The Nithing is a secondary quest in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, set near Rannvaig on Ard Skellig in the Skellige Isles. Start it from Rannvaig’s notice board or by visiting Lothar’s hut southeast of the village.
A curse on a child
Someone has planted a nithing outside Lothar’s home, a pole carrying a deadly curse aimed at his young son Tjalve. Geralt explains that there are two ways to break it: the caster lifts it, or the curse is turned back on the caster. Either way, he needs to know who did it. Lothar insists he has wronged no one.
Jonna
Tracks from the nithing lead to a Skellige shawl, and its scent leads to Rannvaig. A woman near the harbor recognizes it as belonging to the herbalist Jonna. Jonna admits it. She and Lothar were together for ten years until he left her without a word and married someone else, and the whole village mocked her for it. She will lift the curse only if Lothar comes back to her and disowns his son, which would leave his wife and children disgraced and poor.
The choice
Lothar wants Geralt to turn the curse on Jonna instead.
- Spare Jonna. Lothar reluctantly agrees to go back to her to save his son. When he arrives, he makes it clear he returned to her, not that he loves her.
- Turn the curse. Geralt carves Jonna’s name into the pole and turns the skull toward her. Lothar pays him, and a little later Jonna disappears from the game.
