Stregobor is a mage who lived in Blaviken and is best known for his role in The Lesser Evil, the story that gave Geralt his reputation as the Butcher of Blaviken. He is educated, proud and deeply self-absorbed, and he treats his own safety as a matter of world-historical importance.

In the story, Stregobor is convinced that the outlaw princess Renfri is a danger to him and to everyone else, and he uses Geralt’s presence to try to protect himself. Geralt has little sympathy for him, yet the mage’s hiding place is what puts the witcher between Renfri’s gang and a town that will not thank him for what follows.

The scene in which Geralt refuses to pick a side between two evils is one of the most quoted in the saga, and Stregobor is the man who inspires it. He is not a villain in the classic sense, but he is a good example of how the saga treats those who claim to speak for the greater good.
