Strangers in the Night

Three men share a campfire by the river near Novigrad. Stay too long and ask too many questions, and one of them will not live to see morning.

Overview

Strangers in the Night is an unmarked secondary quest in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. It takes place on the riverbank east of the Eternal Fire Chapel and west of the Vegelbud Residence near Novigrad. If you ride away after first finding it, it is gone for good.

Around the fire

Three men sit at a campfire: Manfred, Rufus and Theophile Maria Rosco. Geralt can join them, but once introductions are done, someone is going to die unless he leaves at the right moment.

  • Refuse to give your name and Rufus and Manfred grow suspicious and attack.
  • After introductions, leaving is the only way for everyone to survive, and it still earns XP.
  • Ask about the world, and Manfred shows he knows far too much about the war. Rufus decides he must be a spy and tries to arrest him.

Rufus and Manfred

Geralt can tell Rufus to leave “the merchant” alone, which means fighting and killing Rufus. Or he can tell both to calm down, after which Manfred dies no matter what. If Geralt refuses to help, he gets nothing. If he helps Rufus, Rufus rewards him with a diagram after Manfred is dead.
