Overview
Amidst the Mill’s Grist is a short Blood and Wine secondary quest tied to the hunt for Dettlaff. At the end of La Cage au Fou, the Resonance potion shows Geralt a vision that includes a mill. Players who already know Count de la Croix’s Mill in Sansretour Marsh may recognize it and go there on their own. It is not meant to be stumbled upon, so the window to find it is short and closes as the main story moves on to Where Children Toil, Toys Waste Away.
At the mill
Near the mill, a group of peasants is plotting to run off with the flour. They attack on sight, and they hit harder than their looks suggest. Once they are dead, the quest begins.
Inside, Witcher Senses reveal footprints and several “Mill for Sale” notices, one by the door outside, one inside and one on the small building opposite. Read one of them, then follow the footprints to the top floor, where a large bloodstain tells the rest of the story. The mill belonged to Count de la Croix, who had put it up for sale, and this is where he was murdered.
The quest is complete once Geralt has both read a sale notice and examined the bloodstain.
