Knight for Hire

The Ducal Camerlengo pays Geralt to clear bandits, monsters and threats from fifteen places across Toussaint.

Overview

Knight for Hire is a Blood and Wine secondary quest that turns exploring Toussaint into paid work. It starts from a notice on any notice board in the duchy. The Ducal Camerlengo then marks fifteen places where help is needed and pays 100 crowns for each one Geralt clears. Completing them all earns a trophy for Roach.

Kinds of locations

  • Hanse bases. New to Blood and Wine. These are small bandit armies with a leader who must be killed. A lookout tries to light a signal fire to call reinforcements, so kill him first. Once cleared, allies move in.
  • Knights errant in distress. Also new. A knight fights bandits alongside Geralt and can die, though knights can usually handle themselves.
  • People in distress and abandoned sites, which work as in the base game.

The locations

Hanse bases

  • Arthach Palace ruins, led by Antoine Straggen.
  • Mont Crane Castle, led by Filibert von Wittan.
  • Tulasens Caves, led by Loth.

All three hold diagrams for relic weapons or pieces of Toussaint knight and ducal guard gear.

People in distress

  • Villa Vedette, east of the Arthach Palace ruins.
  • Delenfer Pass, east of Casteldaccia.

Knights errant in distress

  • North-northeast of Fox Hollow.
  • South of the Seidhe Llygad amphitheater.
  • West of Mont Crane Castle.

Abandoned sites

  • Fox Hollow, held by bandits.
  • Cutterin Manor, haunted by a spriggan and wraiths.
  • Coopers’ Slope, home to a cyclops.
  • Hortense Vineyard, infested by giant centipedes.
  • Freinte Docks, held by bandits.
  • Basane Farm, stalked by a werewolf.
  • The Silver Salamander Inn, held by bandits.

Tip

As long as a hanse base’s leader lives, its bandits return after Geralt leaves the area. Their weapons sell well, which makes the bases a quick if risky source of coin, useful for paying for the grandmaster gear in Master Master Master Master!.
