Johnny (Janek in Polish) is a godling, a small woodland spirit who looks like a child with big, bright yellow eyes. He has lived in the swamps of Velen all his life and is much older than he looks. He is kind to the orphans of Crookback Bog and to Gran, who loves his singing, and he has helped them many times without asking anything in return.
In The Witcher 3
In Ladies of the Wood, Geralt needs Johnny’s help to get Gran to talk, but the godling has lost his voice and can only mime. The witcher finds Johnny’s burrow, follows him through the bog and recovers what he needs, and Johnny keeps his side of the bargain. He turns up again at Bald Mountain.
If Geralt drives the godling Sarah out of the haunted house in Novigrad, she later meets Johnny and the two become friends. Johnny grumbles a little about how Sarah was treated, but admits he is glad to have met her.
