Rosa var Attre is the elder twin daughter of Henry var Attre, a Nilfgaardian ambassador, and sister of the mischievous Edna. Her father’s postings keep the family moving, and by 1272 they live in Novigrad. With no friends in the city and no love of banquets, Rosa throws herself into fencing, taking lessons from soldiers and swordmasters, and she is genuinely good at it.

Her father once hired Dandelion to teach his daughters rhetoric, though the bard mostly used the lessons to gather information. Edna, meanwhile, sent him love letters signed “Rosa”, which led to some awkward moments until Rosa made clear she had no interest in the “old bard”. In Broken Flowers, the sisters tell Geralt about Dandelion’s odd behavior.

Rosa is thrilled by the chance to cross swords with a witcher and asks for another lesson in Fencing Lessons. Afterward she gives Geralt the slip, runs into trouble with some thugs near the Seven Cats Inn and, once rescued, reveals a much darker side, casually untroubled at the idea of killing Nordlings who insult her. Geralt sends her straight home.
