Capture the Castle

Geralt and the Ducal Guard storm Dun Tynne to free Dettlaff's beloved from her captors, and discover she is not a hostage at all.

Overview

Capture the Castle is a main quest in Blood and Wine, following The Man from Cintra. It is the expansion’s point of no return: once it starts, Geralt cannot do other quests until the main story is over, and the next stretch has no blacksmiths. Stock up on repair kits and backup swords, set your skills, and save first, since manual saves are disabled for a while. This quest also closes The Warble of a Smitten Knight.

The assault

Geralt meets Damien de la Tour at Count de la Croix’s Mill, and after a cutscene he is thrown straight into battle at Dun Tynne. He fights his way into the courtyard and finds Roderick, one of the defenders, who tells him something about the hostage and Syanna does not add up. Helping Roderick counts as proof of compassion for There Can Be Only One.

Past the wooden gate, the strong fighter Iron Borg can be avoided by running along the balcony. After a group of archers, Dettlaff and Regis join the fight and clear the way.

Rhena and Syanna

At the manor the truth comes out: Rhena, the woman Dettlaff loves and believed was a hostage, is Syanna, the exiled sister of the duchess. She has been using him all along. Dettlaff orders her to meet him in three days to explain herself, or he will attack Beauclair, then flies off.

Anna Henrietta, overjoyed to see her sister alive, has Syanna taken to safety and orders Geralt to find and kill Dettlaff before he carries out his threat. The story jumps three days ahead to The Night of Long Fangs.
