Feet as Cold as Ice

Overview

Feet as Cold as Ice is a Blood and Wine witcher contract. Jacquette, near the Nilfgaardian embassy in Beauclair, fears for her fiancé, the knight François le Goff, who has vowed to kill a monster called Grottore. The quest can also start at François’s camp by a cave northwest of the palace, near the Palace Gardens, or simply by entering the cave. François will be snoring, whatever the hour.

Helping François, or not

Once awake, François declares it is time to fight. Geralt can join him or send him in alone. If Geralt joins, François fights at his side but dies if Geralt strays too far. If he goes alone, or is abandoned, Geralt finds his remains in the cave and can still finish the job, or go straight back to Jacquette.

Grottore

The main chamber reveals that Grottore is a spriggan. Burn the flowers with Igni to lure it out. It summons archespores during the fight, and a superior Golden Oriole helps against their poison. Relict and cursed oils both work. Its corpse holds the sword Fen’aeth.

  • François dead: Jacquette is devastated and offers nothing. If Geralt asks, she pays angrily.
  • François alive and sent home: she is overjoyed, they will marry in a week, and she pays.
  • François alive and told to do as he likes: he keeps the trophy for himself and makes a new vow to bring Jacquette a striped horse from Zerrikania. She sees through him, breaks off the engagement, and pays anyway.

Helping François kill Grottore counts as a Proof of Valor for There Can Be Only One.

Walkthrough

  1. Talk to Jacquette near the Nilfgaardian embassy, or wake François le Goff at his camp.
  2. Decide whether to help François and follow him into the cave.
  3. Investigate the main chamber.
  4. Burn the flowers with Igni and kill Grottore.
  5. Talk to François if he survived.
  6. Return to Jacquette.

Quest Consequences & Choices

If François survives and returns, the couple marries. If he is left to his own devices, Jacquette ends the engagement. If he dies, she is devastated.
