Overview
Funeral Pyres is a secondary quest in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, recommended at level 3. It starts on the road just west of Mulbrydale in Velen, where a priest of the Eternal Fire and his guards have stopped. The priest is condescending, but he has work for a witcher.
The job
He wants the dead from a recent battle burned in a proper rite, and hands Geralt holy oil to pour on each pile of bodies before lighting it with Igni. There are three sites, and each one is guarded by scavengers: a rotfiend and wild dogs at the first, a pack of ghouls in a thicket to the north, and more ghouls at a site further southeast.
Titus Gielas
At the last site Geralt finds a man, Titus Gielas, fighting off ghouls. Jump in fast, because Titus can die. If he lives and Geralt asks about the priest, Titus explains that the priest was one of his fisstech customers. On their last deal the priest attacked him and left him for dead, then hired a witcher to burn the evidence. Waving Titus off as talking nonsense skips this and its reward.
Outcomes
Geralt meets the priest again near the Border Post. If he never learned the truth, he simply gets paid. If he knows, the priest offers a bribe to keep quiet. Geralt can take the money, or refuse, in which case the priest has to be dealt with and a larger sum is found on his body. With the next-gen update, Geralt can bring up this priest during In the Eternal Fire’s Shadow, and his remark is darker if he uncovered the fisstech dealing.
