The Nilfgaardian Connection is the first main quest of Act I in The Witcher 3 and Geralt’s introduction to Velen, a province everyone calls No Man’s Land. Nilfgaard has not fully claimed it, Temeria has collapsed and the Redanians have pulled back north. What is left is a land of gallows, deserters and hungry villagers.
Looking for Hendrik
Emhyr has an agent in Velen, a man named Hendrik, who has been gathering information about Ciri. Geralt goes to the Inn at the Crossroads to ask about him, where the Bloody Baron’s men are making life miserable for the innkeeper and her customers. How Geralt deals with them matters later, because a fight here makes his first visit to Crow’s Perch a lot harder.
Too late
The trail leads to Hendrik’s hideout in Heatherton, but the Wild Hunt has already been there. Hendrik is dead, and Geralt has to fight off rabid dogs before he can search the place. His notes survive, though, and they point in two directions: Ciri stayed with the Bloody Baron at Crow’s Perch, and she had a run-in with a witch near Midcopse.
