Overview

A Deadly Plot is a secondary quest in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and one of the steps toward the plot against King Radovid. It starts in a conversation with Dijkstra at the end of Now or Never. Together with An Eye for an Eye and Redania’s Most Wanted, and a peaceful end to Blindingly Obvious, it unlocks Reason of State. It fails if not completed before The Isle of Mists.

A meeting at the Passiflora

At the Passiflora, east of St. Gregory’s Bridge in Novigrad, the Marquise Serenity opens a secret room upstairs. Dijkstra is waiting, and Vernon Roche soon joins them. Their conspiracy has lost touch with a contact, and Geralt agrees to find him.

The shoemaker’s wagon

Gregor, a disillusioned Redanian soldier at the Border Post in Velen, points the way. The contact’s wagon stands southeast of the Border Post, north of Hanged Man’s Tree, with wolves nearby. A trail of shoes leads southwest to a rock troll named Rogg, standing over a pile of them.

Ogg, Pogg and Rogg

Rogg and his friends Ogg and Pogg are holding the “shoemaker” unharmed in a nearby cave. Inside, the contact turns out to be Thaler, an old acquaintance of Geralt’s. Geralt can threaten the trolls, which sets off a hard three-troll fight, or pick the second dialogue option and talk them into letting Thaler go. A side room in the cave holds the superior Ursine armor diagrams.

Escorting Thaler

Geralt walks Thaler back to his wagon. Thaler refuses to hurry, but you can talk about what he has been up to since they last met. At the wagon he thanks Geralt, and afterwards you can play gwent with him for his unique card.
