Overview

Black Pearl is a secondary quest in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, recommended at level 13. It starts at The Golden Sturgeon in Novigrad, from a notice on Hierarch Square’s board or by meeting the man directly, and continues in the Skellige Isles. The second half requires Destination: Skellige. Accept it when you first have the chance, since the quest can disappear if you ignore Nidas at first.

A promise to keep

Nidas is a veteran from Novigrad. Long ago he promised his wife a black pearl from Skellige, and now, old and no longer fit, he wants to make good on it. He asks Geralt to meet him north of Arinbjorn.

The pearl beds

Nidas waits on a broken bridge and leads Geralt to the water, where the witcher does the heavy lifting. Among the shells are a couple of sirens. The right shell is the one farthest from shore. On the way back, drowners attack Nidas. Hurry, because if he dies the quest fails. Nidas then admits he forgot his purse and promises to pay in Novigrad.

The ending

Back at The Golden Sturgeon, Nidas tells the whole story. His wife Letta can no longer remember or recognize anyone, and he hoped the pearl might reach her. It did not. He pays Geralt a few crowns and says goodbye. It is a small and sad story.
