Udalryk an Brokvar is jarl of Clan Brokvar on Spikeroog. As the eldest son, he should have inherited the family sword, Brokvar, but his father gave it to his younger brother, Aki, a grave insult by Skellige custom. When Udalryk questioned the decision in public, he broke a sacred law and was chained to a post in the sea for three days as punishment.

Later, trying to make peace, the brothers went sailing and were caught in a storm. Aki fell overboard, and Udalryk, busy with the sails, did not hear him in time. Aki drowned. Crushed by guilt, Udalryk began hearing voices in his sleep that claimed to speak for the gods, demanding he wound himself as an offering. He took it as a blessing. He later named his own son Aki, after his brother.

In The Witcher 3

In Possession, Geralt travels to Svorlag on Spikeroog looking for Cerys an Craite, who believes Udalryk is under a curse and means to lift it as her great deed. Their investigation leads to the jarl’s childhood and his abandoned family home. Udalryk’s fate also matters in the struggle for the crown in King’s Gambit.
