Lynch Mob

Overview

Lynch Mob is a short secondary quest in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, set near the Hangman’s Alley signpost in the Spitfire Bluff area of Velen. It is easy to miss: ride past without stepping in, or start A Favor for a Friend, and the chance is gone.

The deserter

A group of peasants has caught a Nilfgaardian soldier who fled the army, and they are getting ready to hang him. Geralt can walk away or step in. The mob will not listen to any plea for mercy, so stepping in means fighting them.

Outcomes

If the peasants are killed, the grateful soldier explains that his wife gave birth to a daughter just before he was sent off, and all he wants is to go home to them. He sets off, and Geralt earns a little XP.

If Geralt lets the mob have its way, a letter from the soldier’s wife can be found on the body. She begged him to desert and come home to her and their daughter. There is no XP for this ending.

Walkthrough

Approach the lynch mob near the Hangman’s Alley signpost.
Walk away, or intervene and kill the peasants.
If you saved him, talk to the deserter before he leaves.

Quest Consequences & Choices

The deserter either goes home to his family or is hanged by the mob.
