Bernard Ducat, better known as Thaler, is the former head of Temeria’s intelligence service, a coarse, cheerful and very dangerous man. Years ago he courted a young Shani in Vizima without telling her who he was, until two clumsy agents following them gave the game away.
In The Witcher
In the first game, Thaler runs a fence’s shop in the Temple Quarter of Vizima, buying and selling weapons and trinkets, offering dice games and a bed for the night.
In The Witcher 3
With Temeria under Nilfgaard, Thaler has taken on a new cover as Clogs, a traveling cobbler, since nobody pays attention to a shoemaker, while he quietly recruits agents and plans the murder of Radovid. In Velen, a band of rock trolls who want shoes of their own seize him, and Geralt gets him out of trouble. He can be found at the Seven Cats Inn, where he challenges Geralt in Gwent: Playing Thaler. He is part of the conspiracy against Radovid with Roche and Dijkstra in Reason of State.
