Overview
The Lord of Undvik is a secondary quest in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and one of the two quests that decide the throne of the Skellige Isles, alongside Possession. Crach an Craite asks Geralt to find his son Hjalmar, who sailed to Undvik to kill the ice giant Myrhyff, which drove the islanders out about a year earlier. Hjalmar hopes the deed will win him the crown. Finishing it is required for King’s Gambit, and it fails if not completed before Battle Preparations.
Getting there
At The New Port inn, Tante and Javor explain how to reach the island. Axel adds a detail that lets Geralt recognize an old man later on. Approach Undvik along the northeast coast for bonus XP.
The stranger
A cutscene shows the giant feeding meat to sirens by a beached ship. Inside is a half-mad old man, Octo, who says he is readying the ship for the giant’s battle with the gods. He asks for twine and nails. The nails can be found nearby, marked with a white sparkle.
Troll soup and the lost crew
At a camp full of bodies, two trails lead on. Footprints go past the Abandoned Village, where the hornwall horn lies, into a cave of ice trolls cooking the archer Folan. Kill them, or win a riddle game (answers: “troll”, then “rocks”). Folan joins Geralt, and saving him makes him a possible ally at Kaer Morhen.
The other trail follows a dragged boat to Urskar. A jump into an underground lake leads past eryniae, the bodies of Hjalmar’s crew, a chamber full of harpies and devourers, to the Clan Tordarroch Forge, where tools for Master Armorers can be found.
Hjalmar and the giant
At the Dorve Ruins, Hjalmar is fighting sirens. Together they head for the giant’s lair. Inside, Vigi the Loon is locked in a cage. Hjalmar says to leave him, but Geralt can free him by staying off the snow so the giant does not wake. Vigi can then help at Kaer Morhen too.
The ice giant hits hard and, once wounded, fights with a ship’s anchor. After his death, Hjalmar offers to tell the tale of Geralt’s victory. Accept the glory and you get a 10% discount with merchants across Skellige.
