Overview
Master of the Arena is a secondary quest in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, set in the arena at Hov on Spikeroog in the Skellige Isles. It must be completed before Fists of Fury: Champion of Champions.
Ulle the Unlucky
A wraith haunts the arena, and no one can fight there. The guards in the tower above explain who he was: Ulle the Unlucky, a warrior who lost every bout. At one tournament he was matched against Jarl Thormar, who mocked him so cruelly that Ulle killed him in the ring. With his dying breath, the jarl cursed Ulle never to win a fight. Talk to the guards before breaking the curse to earn an extra reward later.
Ulle wanders the arena grumbling that everyone always beats him. You have to talk to him, or to the guards, before your blows will even land.
Breaking the curse
Killing Ulle does nothing. He comes back a few days later. The answer is in the story: let him win. Fight him, but do not strike back, and let him beat Geralt. The curse lifts and Ulle is finally free.
The guards pay Geralt when he reports back. If he spoke to them first, he can return a few days later for a share of the profits from the arena’s first fight.
