Overview
Wine Wars: The Deus in the Machina is the Blood and Wine secondary quest that uncovers who has been setting Toussaint’s vintners against each other. It opens once Geralt reads both letters on elegant stationery, one found during Wine Wars: Coronata and one during Wine Wars: Vermentino. Each is on a body at a treasure guarded by two archespores.
The abandoned storehouse
The letters lead to an abandoned storehouse far to the south, east of Tesham Mutna in Caroberta Woods. The way in is an underground cellar in front of the main building. An archespore attacks in the small room ahead, and after that Witcher Senses find the next clue.
What Geralt finds
- If Belgaard already has a new owner, only a fragment of a letter remains. There is no proof of who was behind the plot, and the quest ends without a reward.
- If Belgaard’s fate is still open, a crate holds a stocktaking report showing that the mastermind was Count Vladimir Crespi, the first victim of the Beast of Beauclair. Seedlings in the storehouse can be burned with Igni; if they are left, another archespore hatches later.
Ending the feud
Geralt brings the proof to Liam and Matilda at the Office of Internal Revenue near Plegmund’s Bridge. The two bury the hatchet and agree to run the Belgaard Vineyard together. If both vintners’ tasks are already done, the second part of Wine Wars: Belgaard starts. Otherwise, the remaining work continues in Wine Wars: Consorting.
