Overview
A Dangerous Game is a secondary quest in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, set in Novigrad. After Dandelion is rescued, Geralt finds Zoltan outside the Rosemary and Thyme arguing with two thugs, Duke and Earl. The quest fails if you go to the Isle of Mists first, or if you already asked Zoltan for help in Brothers in Arms: Novigrad.
Zoltan has started dealing in gwent cards and has promised a client three rare ones: Isengrim Faoiltiarna, John Natalis and Fringilla Vigo.
Isengrim Faoiltiarna
The dealer Zed does not answer his door. Geralt climbs ladders and crosses the rooftops to get in, and finds Zed dead and two bandits searching for his ledger. After the fight, the Isengrim card is on one of them. Aard breaks the boards under the stairs to reveal the ledger.
John Natalis
At The Golden Sturgeon, Earl has cornered the card owner Ravik. Earl offers a game of gwent for Ravik’s life and the card. Lose or refuse and Ravik dies. Either way a fight follows, and the card is Geralt’s.
Fringilla Vigo
Zoltan and Geralt call on the collector Caesar Bilzen, who talks fish over a drunken dinner. When Geralt is sent for more booze, he searches upstairs. A knife on the sideboard opens a drawer with a triangular key, which opens a hidden door to Bilzen’s secret collection. Grab the jade figurine while you are there, because it is the only way to start The Soldier Statuette. On the way out, Cleaver’s dwarves arrive to rough Bilzen up. Fight them and he flees the city in gratitude.
The double cross
At the meeting, the client is dead and Duke has the money. Zoltan holds off the thugs while Geralt chases Duke through the sewers, past drowners, and gets the money back. Zoltan then offers Geralt a choice: the gold, or the three cards.
Note: if you take the gold, the cards turn up again later on the prison warden in The Great Escape.
