Overview
Ghosts of the Past is a secondary quest in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, recommended at level 6. It only exists if Letho was spared in The Witcher 2. It is set around Reardon Manor and Lindenvale in Velen, and it fails if not completed before The Isle of Mists. Start the first part of Hazardous Goods beforehand, or it is locked until this quest ends.
An old acquaintance
A farmstead near Lindenvale is full of booby traps. In the barn loft Geralt finds Letho, the Kingslayer. Since Loc Muinne he has been on the run, because Emhyr now sees him as a witness who knows too much. Geralt, with his memory restored, also remembers that Letho and his fellow Vipers once saved Yennefer‘s life.
Bounty hunters soon arrive, and Geralt is dragged into the fight. Only one man, a supposed friend named Louis, knew where Letho was hiding.
Louis and Arnout Vester
Geralt can ride with Letho or let him go. If he strays, the quest ends and the two never meet again. If he follows, Letho confronts Louis, who dies after naming the man who paid him: Arnout Vester. In Lindenvale, Letho blows up a barn to draw Vester’s men out and takes a crossbow bolt. Geralt can intervene and kill the hunters, or stay out of it and talk them into taking Letho’s medallion instead of his head.
Letho was never dead. He had taken a poison that only made him look it, so the hunters would spread word of his death. He is pleased if Geralt stayed out of it and annoyed if he ruined the plan.
Consequences
At the end Geralt can invite Letho to Kaer Morhen, and he will join the fight in the Battle of Kaer Morhen. Otherwise Letho talks about heading to Zerrikania.
