Overview
The Beast of Toussaint is the main quest that opens the story of Blood and Wine properly. Geralt arrives in Toussaint, takes up the hunt for the Beast and receives his own vineyard.
A giant at the windmill
As soon as Geralt crosses the border, he spots Guillaume de Launfal battling a giant, Golyat, at a windmill. A crossbow bolt to Golyat’s eye kills him instantly and earns the David and Golyat achievement.
The investigation
Following Milton to the shore below The Cockatrice Inn, Geralt fights off scurvers, whose death explosions are dangerous. Underwater he finds a handkerchief monogrammed “d.l.C.”. The trail then leads to Corvo Bianco, where a bruxa is feeding in the cellar. After killing her, Geralt finds a coin pouch in the last victim’s mouth and an unusual severed hand.
The arena
At the tourney arena, Guillaume is fighting a shaelmaar that suddenly throws off its restraints, and Geralt steps in. The creature is blind, so baiting it into walls with Aard is effective. Duchess Anna Henrietta invites him to finish it, but sparing it counts as proof of compassion for There Can Be Only One.
The duchess introduces Geralt to Damien de la Tour and gives him the deed and key to Corvo Bianco as part of his reward, which starts No Place Like Home. Comparing notes on the victims, Geralt realizes they were once comrades, and that Milton is next.
The hare hunt
Milton is taking part in the annual hare hunt at Beauclair Palace, a game of hiding and riddles, so he is hard to find. To solve the riddle, Geralt and Anna Henrietta need three clues: a key from a golden fish, a clue from the horn of a “unicorn” and a phoenix egg. The golden fish is the one nearest the shore at the southwest end of the pond. The “unicorn” can be calmed with treats or Axii, though Axii angers some partygoers. The answer to the riddle is “Greenhouse”, which also counts as proof of wisdom for There Can Be Only One.
The story continues straight into Blood Run.
