Witcher 3 Remastered Hotfix 5.00c: What’s Fixed and What Comes Next

The Witcher 3 Remastered has been out for less than a week, and CD Projekt Red is already busy patching it. On October 1, 2026, the studio released two hotfixes in a single day: one for consoles and the Xbox Play Anywhere version in the morning, and Hotfix 5.00c for PC a few hours later. Here is what changed, and what the team says it is still working on.

The console and Xbox Play Anywhere hotfix

The first update of the day was a smaller one. According to VGC and GamesRadar+, it made DLSS available in the Xbox Play Anywhere version on PC, where Nvidia’s upscaler had been missing at launch. It also adjusted lighting on consoles, including interiors that players found too dark, to bring them closer to the PC version.

Hotfix 5.00c for PC

The bigger patch, around 5 GB, went out to Steam, GOG, the Epic Games Store and the Xbox Play Anywhere version. CD Projekt Red’s official patch notes list these changes:

  • Saves can be made and loaded again when the path to the Documents folder contains special characters.
  • Voiceover audio no longer becomes much quieter than the rest of the game after moving between pause menu tabs.
  • Visual adjustments in Velen to bloom, vegetation lighting, saturation and path-traced lighting.
  • A change that caused heavy performance and visual problems with HairWorks turned on has been reverted.
  • Marketing telemetry settings are now saved properly.
  • On GOG, earned achievements now show up in the unlocked list.
  • The Classic (1.32) version of the game can be launched again.

The save bug was the most serious one on the list. If you play on PC and your Windows user name or Documents path has letters like å, ä, ö or other special characters, this was likely the reason your saves failed. The Velen changes matter too, since that is where most players spend the middle of the game. If you want to see how the region looks now, our Velen & Novigrad Interactive Map is a good place to plan a route.

Still to come: bloom and console audio

Two problems are not solved yet. The first is bloom. Many players have been turning the setting off because the game looks less washed out without it. Community director Marcin Momot said the team is looking at the bloom effect on all platforms: “We’re hoping to have the changes ready for the next update but no details yet.”

The second is console audio, where voices can drop in volume. Momot’s answer to players asking about it was short: “We’re working on it.” Quest designer Paweł Sasko added that two hotfixes have shipped and “there is more in the works, including bloom effect.” No date has been given for the next update.

Nintendo Life reports that Switch 2 players have their own list of issues, including a blurry image in handheld mode, bloom, quiet NPC voices after meditating and some dark interiors. CD Projekt Red has not given a separate timeline for the Switch 2 version.

Should you wait before starting a new run?

Not really. The game is playable, the worst PC save bug is fixed, and turning bloom off is an easy workaround until the next patch. Older mods may still break with the new version, so check that your mods have been updated before loading an old save. The record-breaking turnout on Steam, which we covered in The Witcher 3 Remastered Breaks the Game’s All-Time Steam Player Record, shows a lot of people are already back on the road as Geralt.
