Eleven years after its original release, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has received its biggest update yet. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered went live on September 29, 2026, and it is a free upgrade for everyone who already owns the game. CD Projekt Red made it together with Yigsoft, and it arrives as a roughly 45 GB download, unlocking region by region through the day.
Platforms and price
The Remastered edition is out on PC (GOG, Steam and Epic Games Store), PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and, for the first time natively, Nintendo Switch 2. It can also be bought on Battle.net, a new partnership with Blizzard, and through the Microsoft Store. Both expansions, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, are now included for every owner, even if you only bought the base game.
How it plays
The headline change is not the graphics but the gameplay. The skill tree has been rebuilt from scratch, with rebalanced abilities and a more modern progression, so you can commit to a build much earlier than before. Combat animations have been reworked, target switching now works during attacks, and there are new finishers. Geralt’s movement has been reanimated, horse handling for Roach has been revamped, and the witcher Signs have new visual effects.
Monsters and people behave better too. Enemies have improved behaviour and pathfinding, and the world feels busier, with NPCs driving carts, using boats and herding sheep. Witcher senses have been refreshed as well.
Transmog, photo mode and accessibility
A new transmog system lets you change the look of your armor and weapons without losing their stats. That is good news if you love the look of the Griffin set but need the numbers of something else. Photo mode has been expanded, and a new option called Bard’s Ballad is aimed at players with cognitive limitations such as attention difficulties.
Graphics
Textures for environments, characters and monsters have been improved, foliage has been reworked and the lighting is new, with ray tracing on all current platforms. Path tracing is exclusive to PC. On PlayStation 5 Pro, PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution makes 60 frames per second possible with ray tracing switched on.
Nintendo Switch 2 and mods
The Switch 2 version supports motion controls for Signs, the crossbow, bombs, potions and Roach, along with gyro aiming, a mouse mode and touch controls for maps, menus and Gwent. Mod support has also crossed over to consoles, with cross-platform mods through mod.io.
What comes next
The Remastered edition also sets the stage for Songs of the Past, a paid third expansion due in 2027 that takes Geralt and Dandelion to Letten.
