Overview
Mutual of Beauclair’s Wild Kingdom is a Blood and Wine secondary quest in Sansretour Valley. A contract sends Geralt to a merchants’ camp at the trading post northeast of Coronata, which has been torn apart. The clues point to a basilisk, though not any kind Geralt knows.
Count di Salvaress
A rider gallops up: Count Borhis di Salvaress, who turns out to be the creature’s proud caretaker. The “Great White Terror” is Iocaste, the last silver basilisk of her kind. The count wants her spared and will not say where she is. Smashed barrels of tannin give Geralt a scent to follow into the woods, past a corpse with a letter, toward the road along Venin Rocks.
The reavers
There, a band of Crinfrid Reavers is preparing to take on the basilisk. One of them recognizes Geralt, and they offer to share the bounty. The count then arrives and promises to match the fee if Iocaste is left alive. The reavers only care about gold, so the timed choice is Geralt’s.
Spare Iocaste
The count pays, and Geralt receives his share. The count also offers a small extra reward. Sparing the basilisk counts as a Proof of Compassion for There Can Be Only One, and turning down the extra coin counts as a Proof of Generosity. The count still hopes Iocaste may yet have offspring.
Kill Iocaste
The reavers offer to help either with crossbows or up close. Since the basilisk flies, the crossbows are the handier choice. Iocaste is vulnerable to draconid oil, Aard and Igni, and Golden Oriole protects against her venom. Killing her counts as a Proof of Valor, and her body yields a silver basilisk trophy and a squire’s steel sword. The count is heartbroken.
