There Can Be Only One

To claim the legendary sword Aerondight, Geralt must prove the five chivalric virtues of Toussaint and defeat a hermit at Lac Célavy.

Overview

There Can Be Only One is a Blood and Wine secondary quest that leads to Aerondight, one of the finest silver swords in the game. It can be picked up from the notice board on the Gran’place or by overhearing two knights, Bors and Percival, at the Tourney Grounds, though Geralt can also simply go straight to the lake. Virtues proven before the quest starts still count.

At Lac Célavy

On an island in Lac Célavy, northwest of Beauclair, a small inner lake hides a bearded hermit, and Geralt finds he can walk on its water. Stones by the shore describe the five virtues of Toussaint’s knights: valor, honor, compassion, generosity and wisdom. Once Geralt has proven all five, the hermit agrees to fight him for the sword beneath the surface. After his defeat, the hermit sinks into the water, the Lady of the Lake appears, and Geralt receives Aerondight, a relic silver sword that grows stronger with every blow it lands in a fight.

Proving the virtues

Each virtue needs only one proof. Some choices exclude each other, so there are several routes.
