Marcus Thaddeus Knut Hodgson runs the Books and Scrolls shop on Hierarch Square in Novigrad. He plays gwent with a Scoia’tael deck and is one of the few people in the city who truly admires the painter van Rogh.

In The Witcher 3

Years ago, Jacques de Aldersberg, the Grand Master from the first Witcher game, left Marcus a book with a letter tucked inside, to be handed to the witcher Geralt should he ever walk in. Marcus never expected that to happen, so when Geralt finally does, he has no idea where he put it. The witcher finds it himself in Message from an Old Friend. Another witcher, Gaetan, once left a trophy in the shop as collateral and never came back for it.

In the Hearts of Stone quest Avid Collector, Geralt can sell him van Rogh’s painting “Starry Night Over the Pontar”, which Marcus buys at once and hangs in his shop. He is also connected to the heist planning in Open Sesame!.
