Overview
A Knight’s Tales is a Blood and Wine secondary quest in the Gorgon Foothills. It starts with the woodcutter Jacob, or with his notice “Needed: Master Magicker!” on the board at Castel Ravello. In Patrice Glade, west of the vineyard, a tree is bleeding, and Witcher Senses reveal that it is sobbing.
The legend
Jacob tells the story of a knight and the witch of Lynx Crag and hands Geralt the book Tales and Fables. Read it: it opens more choices later.
Lynx Crag
On the way up, Geralt passes a calm panther and a cave full of kikimores and their eggs. High on a ledge in the cave lies a body with Sir Gareth’s bone, which is key to the best ending. Beyond the cave stands the witch’s hut. Under the bear pelt on the wall is a kerchief. When Geralt takes it, the Witch of Lynx Crag appears with her panther. Ask her what happened to Sir Gareth; this is needed for the good ending.
Dealing with the witch
Threaten her
Geralt fights the witch and her panther. Her magic is deadly, so prepare before the fight. Beaten, she agrees to lift the curse, but back at the tree Jacob is gone. His tracks lead to his body: Morholt, possessed by the spirit, has killed him and must be put down. This path counts as a Proof of Valor for There Can Be Only One.
Plead with her, or do it alone
Pleading, available only after reading the book, gets clear instructions; trying it alone can fail. The ritual needs Sir Gareth’s bone. With Jacob’s help, Geralt lights the fires in the right order and throws in the kerchief and the bone.
- Without the bone, or without asking about Gareth, Daphne rises from the tree as a wraith and must be fought.
- With both, she appears as a ghost, asks whether Gareth stayed faithful to her, and thanks Geralt before leaving this world. This counts as a Proof of Wisdom.
Jacob then pays the agreed fee.
