Enchanting: Start-up Costs

An Ofieri runewright has arrived at Upper Mill. He can enchant Geralt's gear with runewords, once he has the money to replace his lost tools.

Overview

Enchanting: Start-up Costs is a secondary quest in Hearts of Stone and the first step toward unlocking runewords and glyphwords, the enchanting system added with the expansion. It usually begins with the notice “A Runewright Upon Your Shores Has Landed” on the board at the Seven Cats Inn.

What happens

The runewright has set up in the Ofieri camp at Upper Mill. He can forge runewords and glyphwords into Geralt’s equipment, but he has lost his tools. Geralt can give him 5,000 crowns to start over, but that is only the beginning. The quest ends there with no immediate reward and leads straight into Enchanting: Quality Has Its Price.
