Abandoned Village

The Abandoned Village in southern White Orchard was once called Hovel. It was founded by Claer and Volker, villagers who wanted to escape the harsh rule of the local lord, Ignatius Verrieres, and who got permission from the court in Vizima to start over on their own land.

It did not last. Ignatius came to the village, pretending to have changed, and had everyone slaughtered and the houses burned. Claer was hanged in the village well and returned as a noonwraith, and nobody has dared to settle here or draw water since. Lifting that curse is the heart of Contract: Devil by the Well. The village lies east-southeast of Broken Bridge, on the edge of the Vulpine Woods.
