An Eye for an Eye

Overview

An Eye for an Eye is a secondary quest in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and one of the three quests that lead to Reason of State. It starts with Vernon Roche at the Temerian partisan hideout in Novigrad, and plays out near Hanged Man’s Tree in Velen. It fails if not completed before The Isle of Mists.

Ves goes rogue

Roche is worried about Ves, one of his Temerian partisans, who is acting on her own. He asks Geralt to come along, now or later at Hanged Man’s Tree. Just down the road in Mulbrydale, Ves has already started an attack on Nilfgaardian soldiers.

Hurry into the village and help kill the Nilfgaardians, and above all keep Ves alive. If she dies, the quest fails.

The survivor

After the fight, Roche scolds Ves and they argue, until they notice one Nilfgaardian still alive on the ground. Roche wants to spare him. Ves wants him dead. Geralt makes the call. If he chooses death, Roche carries it out himself, against his own judgment.

Walkthrough

  1. Talk to Vernon Roche at the Temerian partisan hideout.
  2. Travel with him to Hanged Man’s Tree, or meet him there.
  3. Head to Mulbrydale and kill the Nilfgaardians, keeping Ves alive.
  4. Decide the fate of the surviving soldier.
