Mulbrydale

Mulbrydale is a small village in the Grayrocks area of northern Velen, southwest of the Hanged Man’s Tree, whose hanged bodies look down on it from the hill above. It is one of the oldest villages in the region, a cluster of farmhouses and workshops along the main road, with a notice board, a grindstone and an armorer’s table. Its name supposedly comes from an undereducated botanist who couldn’t tell one kind of tree from another and called them all mulberries.

In The Witcher 3

Most players ride straight through Mulbrydale on their first day in Velen, on the way from the Hanged Man’s Tree to the Inn at the Crossroads. Just west of the village, a priest of the Eternal Fire wants the dead on the nearby battlefield burned properly, and northwest along the road, a lone hut with a wild dog scratching at the door hides a couple of frightened children.

After Temeria fell, the villagers quietly helped Vernon Roche‘s guerrillas, and Nilfgaard has not forgotten. In An Eye for an Eye, Roche asks Geralt for help with Ves, who has deserted her post. She is in Mulbrydale, fighting a Nilfgaardian squad that has come to make an example of the villagers. If Geralt and Roche get there in time, the peasants are saved and Ves survives; if not, she dies defending people no bard will ever sing about.

The village swordsmith is worth a visit too. Despite his title, he is an amateur armorer, and he plays gwent with a Monsters deck. Bandits and Nilfgaardian deserters have kidnapped him, so you have to rescue him before he can work. He once employed the dwarf Fergus Graem and his apprentice Yoana, who have since moved to Crow’s Perch. Grateful villagers put up notices thanking Geralt after the rescue.
