Contract: The Oxenfurt Drunk is one of the most memorable witcher contracts in The Witcher 3. Oxenfurt, the university town, has become a shadow of its former self during the war, and the few who still frequent its taverns and alleys now risk death at the hands of a mysterious killer. Geralt suspects a monster, and he is right.
The murderer is Gael, a katakan of the Gharasham tribe who has developed a fondness for the blood of Oxenfurt’s hard-drinking students. Alcohol-rich blood has made him unusually strong, and he has picked up a magpie’s taste for shiny trinkets along the way.
To catch him, Geralt has to become bait, which means getting properly drunk on cheap wine so that his own blood is exactly what the vampire wants. It is as funny as it sounds, and a nice showcase of how witcher contracts can surprise you. The fight itself is serious, though: Gael heals fast, strikes from invisibility and causes heavy bleeding, so Quen, Yrden, Vampire oil and Black Blood are all worth having. Zoltan even makes an appearance to help set things up.
