Memory of a Blade is a secondary quest in Act II of The Witcher, set in the Temple Quarter. It follows the silver sword Jethro handed Geralt in the dungeon before the cockatrice hunt. Jethro lets slip that the blade was found at Thaler’s place, and it soon becomes clear it never belonged to Berengar. So whose was it, and how did a witcher’s sword end up in Vizima?
The trail runs from Thaler to a dice gambler at the Hairy Bear inn, then to a gardener at St. Lebioda’s Hospital who picked the sword up after the battle of Brenna. Shani, who worked as a medic at Brenna, gives the answer: it belonged to Coën, a witcher Geralt knew, who died in that battle. Zoltan Chivay rounds things off by confirming the blade is a prime-quality witcher’s silver sword and giving Geralt an earth rune for it.
