The Drowned Dead Contract

The Drowned Dead Contract is a monster contract in Act II of The Witcher, handed out by Siegfried of the Order of the Flaming Rose, who usually stands guard in Vizima’s Temple Quarter. The job is simple on paper: bring him ten drowned dead tongues.

The catch is that Geralt only knows how to cut a usable tongue from the corpses once his Bestiary has an entry on the drowned dead, so read up before you go hunting. The Swamp is the place to find them, which means you first need a way past the guards at the gate.

How quickly you get paid depends on how Prison Break went. If you fought the cockatrice alongside Siegfried, he pays up right away. If you went solo, he has been punished with guard duty at the hospital and cannot hand out rewards until he is relieved.

Walkthrough

  1. Talk to Siegfried in the Temple Quarter and take the contract.
  2. Get the drowned dead Bestiary entry if you do not already have it (from a book or by talking to the right people).
  3. Get into the Swamp and kill drowned dead until you have ten tongues.
  4. Return to Siegfried with the tongues and the contract to collect your pay.

Quest Consequences & Choices

If you teamed up with Siegfried in Prison Break, you can turn the tongues in straight away. If you killed the cockatrice alone, Siegfried is stuck guarding the hospital and you have to wait until he is relieved of that duty before he can pay you.
