School of the Lynx is the name fans use for the witcher school that Ciri’s lynx medallion seems to point to. CD Projekt Red has only confirmed the medallion itself: it is a lynx. A new school has not been officially confirmed, and nothing has been said about its history, founder or keep. It is tied to The Witcher 4, where Ciri steps into the role of main character as a fully fledged witcher, wearing a medallion shaped like a lynx.
What we know
When CD Projekt Red announced a new Witcher saga on March 21, 2022, the only image was a medallion half buried in snow. Fans immediately started arguing about the animal on it. Was it a cat? A new school? Two days later CDPR’s community director Marcin Momot settled it: the medallion is shaped like a lynx (PC Gamer). In the reveal trailer at The Game Awards in December 2024 the medallion hangs around Ciri’s neck, and the studio has since sold a replica of it, so it is clearly here to stay.
What we don’t know yet
Almost everything else is still a mystery. Even if there is a school behind the medallion, CD Projekt Red has not revealed where it is based, who founded it, how its witchers are trained or whether Ciri is its student, its founder or something in between. The detailed Lynx lore that circulates online is fan-made. Until the developers share more, anything you read about the school’s history is speculation, and we won’t invent it here. We will update this page as soon as there is confirmed information.
Why it matters
Every other witcher school in the games, from the Wolf to the Manticore, belongs to the past: most of them were destroyed or scattered long before Geralt’s adventures. If the lynx does turn out to be a new school tied to Ciri, it would suggest the witcher trade may have a future after all, and that is a very exciting thought for a series that has spent decades telling us witchers are a dying breed.
