Contract: Phantom of the Trade Route is a witcher contract in Velen, north of Benek in the region known as the Descent. A group of refugees asks Geralt to find their missing companions, who set off north with a caravan and never arrived. Everything suggests a beast attacked them on the way. Alternatively, Geralt can first find the survivors hiding in a cave, where they tell him about the monster.
The trail of wrecked wagons and bodies leads to the beast responsible: a royal wyvern, a larger and more dangerous relative of the common wyvern, supported by a few smaller ones. It is one of the tougher draconid fights in Velen, with the royal wyvern diving from above and hitting with venom.
Draconid oil, Grapeshot and a well-timed Aard help Geralt ground the beast. Beating it earns the relic sword Anathema. As is so often the case with refugees in Velen, the survivors have already been through the worst, and Geralt’s victory brings closure more than it brings anyone back.
