Avid Collector

Overview

Avid Collector is a secondary quest in Hearts of Stone that starts during the auction in Open Sesame! at the Borsody Auction House. It is easy to miss, since it depends on one conversation.

The art dealer’s tip

The art dealer Yaromir Ivanovitz Zaytsev is dismissive at first, but if Geralt claims to know art, Yaromir tests him: which painting is by E. van der Knoob? The answer is the portrait of the merchant. Impressed, Yaromir tells Geralt that a painting by the little-known van Rogh, “Starry Night Over the Pontar”, is up for auction, and that a bookseller in Novigrad is a great admirer.

Vimme Vivaldi asks what the dealer said. Lie, and the painting goes cheap. Tell the truth, and Geralt has to outbid him.

The sale

Once the main quest allows free movement again, take the painting to Marcus T.K. Hodgson’s shop on Hierarch Square in Novigrad. He buys it on the spot. Fittingly, van Rogh turns out to be the pen name of Iris von Everec.

Walkthrough

  1. At the auction, tell Yaromir you know art and pick the portrait of the merchant.
  2. Lie to Vivaldi about the tip, or tell the truth and outbid him.
  3. Buy “Starry Night Over the Pontar”.
  4. Sell it to Marcus T.K. Hodgson in his shop on Hierarch Square in Novigrad.
