Songs of the Past: The Witcher 3’s Third Expansion Takes Geralt to Dandelion’s Homeland

Almost exactly ten years after Blood and Wine, CD Projekt Red confirmed something few fans expected: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is getting a third expansion. Songs of the Past was announced on May 27, 2026, and it is being made together with Fool’s Theory, the Polish studio founded by former CD Projekt Red quest designer Jakub Rokosz. It is a paid expansion coming in 2027 to PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2. The team had originally aimed for 2026 but chose to take more time.

Welcome to Letten

The expansion takes place in Letten, a region in northern Redania that no Witcher game has shown before. CD Projekt Red describes it as an idyllic land rich in rural tradition and folklore, with bountiful harvests and lavish festivals. In hands-off previews it looked like a lush green valley hidden in the mountains and never touched by the war, with darker forests around its edges. It lies not far from Kovir and Poviss, the region shown in the first look at The Witcher 4.

A story about Geralt and Dandelion

The name Letten is no coincidence. Dandelion’s full name is Julian Alfred Pankratz, Viscount de Lettenhove, and this is his family’s home. After the Belleteyn celebrations the bard goes missing, and Geralt, who is spending his retirement in Toussaint, travels north to find him. At the family manor of Lettenhove he meets Dandelion’s grandmother and his cousin Lilla, and he runs into an old family curse tied to an ancestor, the mad Count Humbert de Lettenhove.

According to the developers, the heart of the expansion is the friendship between the witcher and the bard. The story is original and not adapted from Sapkowski’s books. Previews also suggest that Lilla can be romanced.

A new weapon and new monsters

Geralt gets a new tool: a silver chain that wraps around his arm. It is used like a Sign or a bomb, is good for handling crowds, and can be aimed at specific body parts in slow motion, much like the crossbow. Longtime fans may recognise it, since Geralt fights with a chain in the intro cinematic of the very first Witcher game from 2007.

The previews also showed new enemies: swarming creatures called swarmions, giant centipedes and a boss known as the Slumbering Knight, who guards a mystical well in the woods of Letten.

First taste of the music

On September 28, 2026, Milan Records released a five-track EP with music from the expansion: Return to the Path, Awoken, Into Darkness, What’s Done and Belleteyn Night. The music is by Magda Urbańska, Daniel Elms and Marcin Przybyłowicz, the composer behind much of the original Witcher 3 soundtrack, and it mixes orchestra with Slavic folk sounds.

Until the expansion arrives, the free Witcher 3 Remastered update is a good reason to get back on the Path.
