Buried Memories is a main quest in Act I of The Witcher, set in the Outskirts of Vizima. It is one of three trust-building jobs that branch off Of Monsters and Men: to get anywhere in the village, Geralt needs the backing of Mikul, Haren Brogg and Odo. Mikul, the guard at the Merchants’ Gate, is the hardest sell. He wants either a bribe or proof that Geralt is in good standing with the Order of the Eternal Fire, in the form of a signet ring.
Once convinced, Mikul asks Geralt to clear a crypt overrun by ghouls. Inside, Geralt finds more than monsters: the body of a young woman and a small vial. Mikul recognizes her as Ilsa, the woman he loved, and blames the local witch Abigail for her death. Finishing the job earns his trust, along with a useful tip: the Salamandra carry passes that let them come and go from Vizima as they please.
