Melitele’s Heart

Melitele’s Heart is a side quest in The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings that begins in the Prologue and continues in Chapter 1. In Foltest’s camp Geralt meets the Crinfrid Reavers Kennet, Desbrut and Boholt and their new recruit, Newboy. The Reavers have wagered with one of the king’s knights that Newboy will live through the assault wearing only his shirt and trousers, trusting an amulet stolen from a roadside shrine, and they ask Geralt for his opinion.

Geralt’s answer decides whether Newboy lives or dies, and Newboy may later repay him while Geralt is trying to get aboard Vernon Roche’s riverboat.

In Chapter 1, in Flotsam, Geralt learns that the talisman is not worthless after all. Anezka from the village of Lobinden can awaken it with a ritual if Geralt brings her four ingredients: an endrega fetus, arachas eyes, a troll’s tongue and essence of death. The ritual is held at night at the shrine of Veyopatis in the forest, where wraiths are drawn to the magic. If it succeeds, Anezka gives Geralt the amulet Melitele’s Heart.

Walkthrough

In Foltest’s camp, talk to the Crinfrid Reavers and give Newboy your view on the amulet.
If Newboy died in the battle, take the talisman from his body.
After escaping the dungeon, if Newboy survived, let him draw the guards away and slip aboard the riverboat; fight the guards if you are spotted.
In Chapter 1, show the talisman to Anezka near Flotsam.
Collect a troll’s tongue, arachas eyes, an endrega fetus and essence of death.
Bring the ingredients to Anezka.
Meet her at the shrine of Veyopatis in the forest after dark.
Protect Anezka from the wraiths until the ritual is finished.
Receive Melitele’s Heart from Anezka.

Quest Consequences & Choices

Prologue: if Geralt says the amulet is magic, or brushes Newboy off, Newboy goes into battle without armor and dies, and Geralt can take the talisman from his corpse. If Geralt doubts the amulet, Newboy puts on his armor and survives. He later offers to distract the guards near Roche’s riverboat; Geralt either gets on board unseen or ends up fighting the guards, and the journal states that in this case Newboy dies by Geralt’s hand.

Chapter 1: Geralt can sell the talisman to Anezka for orens, or have her perform the ritual. If he defends her from the wraiths, the ritual succeeds and he gets Melitele’s Heart; if he fails to protect her, the ritual fails and the talisman stays powerless. Geralt can also leave the matter unfinished, in which case the ritual never takes place.
