The Kayran is a monster contract in Chapter 1 of The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings. A river monster has been attacking ships and has blocked the port of Flotsam. Geralt may first hear about it at Loredo’s banquet or learn that a man was attacked on the pier.
At the pier Geralt meets the sorceress Síle de Tansarville, who agrees to help hunt the beast once a price for the job has been settled with the merchants at the harbor. The elf Cedric, who lives in Lobinden, explains that the kayran is coated in poisonous mucus. After visiting the monster’s lair with Triss, Geralt gets the formula for a potion against the venom, which needs the herb ostmurk. Cedric directs him to a cave under the ruined elven gardens near the waterfall.
During the search, Geralt and Triss fight bandits in the ruins, fall into an old elven bathhouse and later clash with a Scoia’tael unit. With the ostmurk delivered to Síle, Geralt faces the kayran, kills it in a battle that brings down the bridge’s arches, and collects his payment.
