Adam Pangratt

Adam Pangratt, nicknamed “Adieu”, is a mercenary commander in The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings. He was one of the “Sly Cats”, a group of convicts, agitators and political prisoners released by King Esterad Thyssen of Kovir to support the Northern Kingdoms unofficially in the second war against Nilfgaard. Such men became the backbone of the mercenary companies from Kovir and Poviss that marched south during that conflict.

At the Battle of Brenna, Pangratt led the Free Company, and the battle ended with the Nilfgaardian offensive broken and the imperial army driven back across the Yaruga. He is said to have later married Julia Abatemarco, called Pretty Kitty, another mercenary who earned fame at Brenna.

During the events of the game, Pangratt and his veterans are in the direct employ of King Henselt, a contract earned through his reputation and one that promised generous pay. His company is assigned to guard the edge of the cursed mist, a task they carry out calmly and professionally.

Geralt meets Pangratt again in the underground tunnels leading to Vergen. This time they are on opposing sides, and the encounter ends with the mercenary’s death. In another course of events, Pangratt keeps his word and lives up to his reputation in the fighting at the second gate.
