Griffin
The griffin is a hybrid: half eagle, half lion, and one of the most famous monsters in The Witcher 3. It is the very first big contract-style hunt in the game. In The Beast of White Orchard Geralt tracks a griffin that has been killing travelers in White Orchard.
Griffins nest high up, hunt from the air and defend their territory fiercely. Later you find them in Velen, Skellige and Toussaint. Bigger cousins are the Royal Griffin, the Archgriffin and the Opinicus.
Combat strategy
A griffin spends a lot of the fight in the air, so the main job is to bring it down. Shoot it with the crossbow when it flies over you, or throw Grapeshot. Once it lands, hit it hard and roll away from its charge and wing sweeps.
- Apply Hybrid oil to your silver sword.
- Use Aard to knock it to the ground when it is low.
- Grapeshot or a crossbow bolt brings it down from the air.
- Keep moving: its diving attack hits hard if you stand still.
- Signs Weakness: aard
- Oil Weakness: hybrid oil
- Bomb Weakness: grapeshot
