Daily Bread

Daily Bread is a small secondary quest in Act IV of The Witcher, set at the Lakeside near Murky Waters. A group of elves is hiding out by the lake, both outside and inside the nearby cave, and they’re close to starving. Their leader, Toruviel, gives Geralt 20 orens and asks him to bring back five loaves of bread.

The baker in Murky Waters has what they need. The maths is a little cruel, though: a loaf costs 5 orens, so Toruviel’s money only covers four. Geralt can pay for the fifth himself or help himself to one from the baker’s house. No fighting, just shopping – and it leads on to Hunting the Wild Hunt.

Walkthrough

  1. Find the elves at the Lakeside (outside or inside the cave) and talk to Toruviel. She gives you 20 orens.
  2. Go to the baker in Murky Waters.
  3. Buy the loaves at 5 orens each, or search his house for bread. The 20 orens only covers four, so add the fifth yourself.
  4. Return to Toruviel and hand over the bread.

Quest Consequences & Choices

Bringing four or five loaves makes no difference to the story, but delivering all five gives more experience.
