Echoes of Yesterday is a secondary quest in Act III of The Witcher. If Geralt is in the Druids’ Grove in the swamp at the start of the act, Yaevinn of the Scoia’tael asks him to find a group of his men who went missing in the sewers under Vizima’s Trade Quarter. They were looking for an old elven temple, and Yaevinn would also like any relics tied to Lara Dorren that might turn up there.
Down in the sewers Geralt finds the dwarf Ren Grouver and two elves, the only survivors. Something living in the elven ruins killed the rest, and that something turns out to be a bruxa, a vampire with a very bad attitude. Once she is dead, Yaevinn shows up, pays Geralt and suggests he forget what he saw. No mementos of Lara are found, and why the Squirrels wanted into those ruins so badly is left for Geralt to wonder about.
