Pyres of Novigrad is the main quest that opens the Novigrad storyline in The Witcher 3. Ciri’s trail leads to the biggest city in the North, a free port that is also the seat of the Church of the Eternal Fire. But this is not the Novigrad Geralt remembers. King Radovid has given the witch hunters free rein, the Temple Guard under Captain Caleb Menge does whatever it likes, and the smell of burning flesh hangs over Hierarch Square.
Looking for Triss
Finding Ciri in a city this size is like looking for a needle in a burning haystack, so Geralt goes looking for help from an old friend, Triss Merigold. Her townhouse near Hierarch Square has been abandoned and is being picked over by looters, who say she may have fled to the Putrid Grove, the hideout of the King of Beggars. Menge and his men turn up while Geralt is still at the house, and make it clear they are hunting her too.
The Putrid Grove
There are several ways to find the grove, from following the fish-market clues to asking the right people, and getting in means convincing the King of Beggars’ guards. Inside, Geralt finally finds Triss, who has been hiding with the city’s outcasts. She agrees to help him look for Ciri, and her first suggestion leads to a dreamer named Corinne Tilly.
