Overview
Of Swords and Dumplings is a secondary quest in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, set in Novigrad. Blacksmiths asked about master swords all point to Éibhear Hattori, an elf with a home in the city and a love of dumplings. Finishing the quest unlocks him as a master swordsmith.
Hattori’s troubles
Hattori tells a long story. A rival swordsmith, Ernst van Hoorn, could not beat him on skill, so he squeezed out the competition with debts, accusations and blocked supplies, with Cleaver’s gang behind him. Hattori needs supplies from the King of Beggars’ people and asks Geralt to help negotiate, at the docks after dusk.
Negotiating with Tinboy
Tinboy says there is no negotiating, but there is. Push him, keep refusing, and when he turns to leave say “no deal” once more, and he comes back down to 25% plus a discount. Right then Cleaver’s men attack. After the fight and a chase through an alley, Hattori panics and runs home, where he refuses to come out until he has a bodyguard.
Sukrus
Hattori suggests Sukrus, a Skellige pirate he owes money to. Sukrus is brawling outside The Golden Sturgeon and wants a fistfight with Geralt too. Over a drink he asks for a favor: deal with his brother-in-law, a merchant on a ship off the main dock, either by Axii or by smashing his mead barrels with Aard. Then Sukrus agrees to guard Hattori.
The warehouse
Hattori still needs materials, and van Hoorn has plenty in a warehouse near The Golden Sturgeon. At night, a dwarf at the door recognizes Geralt as a friend of Yarpen Zigrin and lets him in for money or Axii. With an imported save where Geralt sided with Iorveth in The Witcher 2, he just waves him through. Inside, Witcher Senses mark three crates. Outside, van Hoorn and his thugs are waiting. Stay close during the fight or the quest fails.
With van Hoorn gone, Cleaver loses interest and Hattori gets back to work. Come back after about six hours for the sword Blade from the Bits.
